Outward Disciplines

By Richard Damon , 27 December 2025

The Outward Disciplines continue after the Inward Disciplines, moving the focus from largely between you and God to adding how you deal with the World around you. Note, while called "Outward", there is still a focus on your inward reality, it is just that these disciplines should result in a effect on your outward life-style.

The Disciplines are:

  • Simplicity
  • Solitude
  • Submission
  • Service

Legalism

The Outward disciplines are perhaps the easiest group to turn into a "Law" because they have the clearest external manifestations on which to base legalistic rules on. This becomes something to keep in mind while working on them. The outward results are important indicators, but are NOT the "goal" of the Discipline, which, like the Inward Disciplines, is drawing closer to God.
