Count Henry I "the Generous" of Champagne and Brie was born in 1127 in Champagne.2 He was the son of Count Thibaud IV (II) (of Blois and Champagne) and Mathilda von Sponheim.1,2 Count Henry I "the Generous" of Champagne and Brie married Princess Marie of France, daughter of King Louis VII "the Young" (of France) and Queen Eleanor (of Aquitaine), in 1164. Count Henry I "the Generous" of Champagne and Brie is also reported to have died on 17 March 1181 in Troyes.1 He died on 16 March 1181 in Troyes, Champagne.2 He was buried at St. Etienne, France.2
