President Ulysses S. Grant was born on 27 April 1822 in Point Pleasant, Clermont County, Ohio.1 He was the son of Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson.1 President Ulysses S. Grant married Julia Boggs Dent on 22 August 1848 in St Louis, Missouri.1 President Ulysses S. Grant died on 23 July 1885 in Mount McGregor, New York, at age 63.1 He was buried in Grant's Tomb, Riverside Park, New York.1
President Ulysses S. Grant was also known as (Hiram) Ulysses Simpson Grant.1 Was elected in 1868 over Horatio Seymour by a popular vote of 3,013,421 to 2,706,829 and an electoral vote of 214 to 80. Won reelection in 1872 by votes of 3,596,745 to 2,843,446 and 286 to 0 over Horace Greeley. Became known in 1862 as 'Unconditional Surrender Grant'. In 1864, Lt. General Grant was given command of the northern army; accepted General Lee's surrender at Appomattox.1 He became President of the United States on 4 March 1869 replacing President Andrew Johnson. President Ulysses S. Grant was over Vice President Schuyler Colfax as Vice President of the United States on 4 March 1869. President Ulysses S. Grant was over Vice President Henry Wilson as Vice President of the United States on 4 March 1873. President Ulysses S. Grant was replaced as President of the United States by President Rutherford Birchard Hayes on 4 March 1877.
